Agneepath is a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan film from 1990 and the cast and crew were hoping this remake would live up to expectations. The remake stars Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan, Rishi Kapoor and Katrina Kaif who appears in an item number.
The Story:
The film begins with the age-old conflict of a reformist school-teacher versus the shrewd zamindar, duping the villagers of their lands. The village here is Mandwa. When the honest master is brutally killed by deadly Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt), his son Vijay Dinanath Chauhan (Hrithik Roshan) vows to take revenge and destroy his perpetrator at any cost.
He goes to Mumbai and joins hands with Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor) upon realization that he would need powerful support to demolish Kancha. He plans his every move cleverly. Hrithik Roshan's character befriends Kaali played by Priyanka Chopra who becomes his only friend and later on his love interest.
The Cast:
Priyanka Chopra
Hrithik Roshan
Rishi Kapoor
Sanjay Dutt
Katrina Kaif
The Crew:
Karan Johar - Producer
Karan Malhotra - Director
Music - Ajay-Atul
What Worked:
The acting of Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan in this film is remarkable. The three of them exude chemistry with each other and this is definitely the best I've ever seen Sanjay Dutt act. Priyanka Chopra does well to play the leading lady here and she and Hrithik have amazing chemistry, The music also stands out in the film especially the item number 'Chikni Chameli' sung by Shreya Ghoshal and performed by item girl Katrina Kaif.
What Didn't:
Some of the scenes in the movie are predictable but that's to be expected as this is a remake of the 1990 film. Hrithik Roshan did have a hard time at the beginning stepping into the role of Amitabh Bachchan but in the end he acted beautifully.
Slated or Rated:
This remake version of Agneepath is definitely worth the watch! Most of the time remakes are not worth the watch but I can say that heading to the theaters this weekend will not be a waste of your time!
Rating: 4/5 stars
